Rental of hairdressing chair

Do you have an empty workspace in your salon? Would you like an extra colleague without the hassle of having employees? Consider renting out a workspace. By renting a space to an independent hairdresser, you can get the best out of each other. The independent hairdresser gets a spot in an established salon with equipment to run their business, and you get a new colleague who pays to work at your place.

Where to find an independent hairdresser?

There is no general answer, but here are some good places to look:

  1. Facebook groups
  2. Instagram hashtags
  3. Industry sites like Hair.dk
  4. Ask your friends
  5. Ask your customers
  6. Ask your employees

Renew your salon (Completely free?)

Renting out a workspace can also be brilliant if you are thinking about renewing your salon. Let’s say you have 5 workspaces and you have fallen in love with a styling chair, but it’s beyond your budget. By renting out a space, you can often earn much more than it costs to finance the new chairs.

Example

  1. Let’s say you find the perfect chairs, but they cost 50,000 DKK excluding VAT.
  2. It will cost you about 1,900 DKK per month to finance them.
  3. Can you charge 1,900 DKK for a space in your salon?
  4. That sounds like a really cheap rent for an independent hairdresser.

So you could buy furniture for 50,000 DKK and have your new colleague pay for it. Not literally, of course – the independent hairdresser has to pay you and you have to buy the furniture.

Is financing risky?

In short: no. All leasing companies, banks, etc. must credit approve you before you can borrow money. They do this to protect their money as best as possible, but also to help you avoid signing something you can’t maintain.

Should you make a contract?

Remember to write a contract between you and the independent hairdresser. For both your sakes. As long as you get along well, there are no problems, but a contract that both respect helps protect you both if you disagree and choose to end the collaboration. P.S. remember to specify that you are not employing the independent hairdresser. They are simply paying you to rent the space.

Final words

If you can get more money in "rent" or "chair rental" from an independent hairdresser than it costs you to buy new furniture, it is practically free for you to buy the new furniture. Use your empty space as an opportunity to bring in an independent hairdresser and increase traffic in your salon, while you buy your dream furniture.
